Nishin Economic Development consists of several "sub departments" including Tourism & Marketing, Graphics, Environmental Management Systems, and Nishin Crafts.

Nishin Economic Development works with Sheshegwaning Band Members in their efforts to start businesses without being a financial lender or mortgager by providing support, advice, encouragement and training.

Nishin Economic Development also sets up criteria and conducts viability assessments with individual entrepreneurs starting or expanding their businesses.  Nishin Economic Development also initiates projects and monitors the effectiveness of all economic development projects.

Sheshegwaning and Nishin Economic Development have focused on the tourism industry and marketing as a major component of its strategic plan.  As such, Sheshegwaning employs a tourism coordinator to implement the Sheshegwaning Tourism Marketing Strategy.   As Sheshegwaning is culturally rich, it relies on its abundance of cultural and natural resources to overcome its remoteness.

Sheshegwaning has also had the privilege of membership in the Great Spirit Circle Trail, a Native tourism marketing agency for the Manitoulin-Sagamok region established by Waubetek Business Development Corporation.

Plans have been developed to establish an Environmental Management Systems (EMS) program to give guidance to Sheshegwaning in addressing environmental issues in the development of businesses and projects.  The EMS program will map out and identify environmentally sensitive and historical regions to ensure the preservation of these areas.
